An Old Goodwill Chair Gets New Life

I've had this cute wood chair sitting in the garage for a long, long time.  I found it on one of my many Goodwill trips for $9.99!  I figure it's time to get on those projects that have been sitting there screaming for attention!  Not because it's the New Year...just because...lol!

First I took a trip to Ace Hardware to pick out a fun color.  Rustoleum Gloss in Brilliant Blue looked super cool to me.

The chair wasn't in the best shape, but it was very sturdy.  After sanding the areas that needed a light sanding and cleaning the chair entirely, I started spraying it.  Unfortunately, I tried to get away with not giving it some coats of primer...mistake!

You can see the blue under the primer...I just did the primer right over my mistake!  Two coats of primer (Kilz Original Spray Sealer-Primer/Stainblocker)  and a good brush off with a rag and it was ready for the new color.

It took about 3 coats to complete the chair...lots of waiting for drying and patiently adding another coat.

I haven't decided where it's home will be yet, but I really love the color!

Pink Flowers

Hope you had a fabulous Christmas!  I am always excited when the craziness is over, but then I realize there were tons of little projects I wanted to do.  Oh well...just not enough time!

Since we were having family here I did do a few things to spruce up the house.  Drew and I headed to Hobby Lobby to look for some flowers to put in our entertainment center.  He still loves to help me even though he turned 11 this month  (well...at least he is good at pretending...lol!).  Cade (who is 8 and refuses to humor mommy) went to a neighbors to play since he wanted nothing to do with Hobby Lobby!

Here is what we came up with...I love the color!

The best part 50% off.  I already had the white flower, but we needed some color to brighten up this crazy cut out...in came pink!

I love how real they look!  What do you think about pink for a Christmas accent?

Emma's Bedroom Inspiration Boards

Yes!!  Both sets of inspiration boards are complete.  Just in time for Christmas!  This set of boards is for Erin's older sister Emma.  I really hope they like them!

Each board has a few little changes to see what catches her eye.  Which board catches your eye?

Erin's Bedroom Inspiration Boards

Wow...time has flown by!  We went to Tucson for Thanksgiving and I have no idea why I haven't posted since Nov. 12th...yikes!

I know I have been extremely busy and have been doing lots of decorating so I really need to get these things posted...lol:-)

Recently I've been hard at work on creating inspiration boards for two adorable girls who will be getting new bedrooms when they return from overseas.  They will not return until June, but their mom wanted to surprise them with some Christmas bedroom inspiration boards.

I finished Erin's boards...so fun!

Aren't they so cute?!  She wanted her accent color to be orange so I played around a little bit to see what her favorite combos would end up being.  Which one is your favorite?

What's Under the Kitchen Sink?

Under the kitchen sink can be a scary place.  I know I get busy with other stuff and just ignore it...what a gross mess!

First I took everything out and then scrubbed it clean...Yuck!

Once it was nice and clean I decided to line the bottom so it would look "pretty" when I opened the cabinet.  I followed my usual process for lining cabinets.  You can see how to do it here and here or here.

Love how it turned out!

There is no hiding all of the lovely hoses etc. but it still looks a ton better.  The little container on the left holds the two sink plugs and the pink container holds vinegar, dishwasher soap, and regular dish soap.  You'll notice that I like to recycle my Target bags by using them in the garbage under the sink (I have plenty of them...lol!).

This is my view from the sink looking down...so much nicer don't you think?

Spray Painted Side Table

Halloween is over!  I spent an entire week looking for zombie costume parts for Eric and I...yikes!  We had a Zombie Prom to attend last weekend and I feel like it took up WAY too much of my time!

And I couldn't even look at my husband the entire time he had his homemade mask on...lol!  The boys had fun trick or treating, but I think they are having more fun eating their candy!

OK...now on to the fun table!

I've had this table for some time now, but keep moving it all over the house.

I can't decide if I just don't like it, if it's too big, or if it's the color that's throwing me off.  So before trying to sell it on Craigslist I decided to give some spray paint a try.  Krylon Smoke Gray Dual Paint and Primer was my choice.

It only took 2 full coats and a 3rd coat that was a touch up coat (basically any spots I could find that I didn't like or I thought needed a bit more paint).  After the first coat you can still see the original color underneath which is what you want.

Wait about 20-25 minutes between coats and after the final touch up coat let the table sit for 24 hours before placing anything on it.  This will ensure that it is dry...there is nothing worse than rushing paint!

I like it a million times better!!

The gray matches nicely in the living room.

Now maybe I'll be able to live with this table!  Only time will tell, but for now the spray paint has given it new life.

Decorating Above Cabinets

Consider yourself lucky if you do not have any space above your kitchen cabinets!  That space drives me crazy and makes me regret not getting the cabinets all the way to the ceiling.  It looks too bare without anything, but can look awful with the wrong decorations.

I still love my new paint color...thank goodness.  And as I look back at old pictures (you can see some here) I love it even more...lol!  Prior to the new paint color the decorations above the cabinets drove me crazy so I was determined to do a better job...or just leave it blank!

Ta Da...I love it!

I decided to try my cabinet door turned wall art in the space above the cabinets.  It works great up there...simple, but bright and fun.

I would still love to have white cabinets, but until we either have the money to replace them or I get brave and paint them, adding fun colors will have to do!
